Good to know about thoc

THOC stands for “The House Of Curiosities”. As The House Of Curiosities we facilitate transactions between collectors of exclusive and special objects and their designers and or suppliers. Our mission is to create opportunities for people by harmonizing interests and styles. As an experienced auctioneer we value exclusive lots at a honest price. Our vision for commerce is one that empowers open minded people with knowledge for quality and exclusivity – creating synergies and once in a lifetime chances.

THOC is an online market place where all transactions are facilitated by professionals. Uniqueness is in our DNA:

T- To deliver ultimate customer satisfaction.  Our customers are all sellers, buyers and visitors. Our trading environment is clear, safe, simple and easy to use. We try to support all stakeholders through our easy to contact team.

H- Highly valued relationships. Our auctions may be temporary, but our relationships are forever. We strive to enhance long term engagements with all our stakeholders. In that we can be a lifetime partner.

O- Organizational simplicity. We try to keep the basics right by designing a clear seller and buyer interface, simple transaction rules and easy to handle payments.

C- Characteristic, charismatic and clear objects.  We strive to auction objects with a certain charisma and character. Descriptions need to be simple, correct and clear. Finding an exclusive object isn’t a task but it’s a joy!

It’s free to register an account at THOC. Everybody is invited to offer up or to bid. Buyers and sellers are charged a commission fee on the highest bid. A buyer’s commission is only due when he or she is the highest bidder. A seller commission is only due if the item is sold.

Overview of costs

THOC will charge a buyer’s premium of 8% (excluding VAT) on the highest bid. The seller can choose to charge shipping costs or to ship for free. You can always check the possible shipping costs before you bid! We will make things very clear! An example:

Your bid:                               20
Buyers premium :                 1.6 euro = 8%
Vat Buyers premium:            0.33 euro
Shipping costs:                    6 euro

Your invoice total will be:      27.93 euro

For the total of 27.93 euro your item will be delivered at your doorstep!

To the seller we will charge a commission of 11% (VAT exclusive). The VAT will only be calculated on the commission cost. In above example we will pay out:

Highest bid:                        20 euro

Commission:                      2.2 euro

VAT commission:               0.46 euro

Shipping costs:                  6 euro

We will pay out a total of:   23.46 euro

No! You will pay your invoice amount to THOC. THOC will escrow your money for 14 days starting from the day the seller has shipped your item. Should a problem occur with your purchase we will freeze the money until a solution is found. This way we encourage our sellers to assist our buyers in the best possible way.

During the escrow period your money is safely kept at special designated third party bank accounts regulated by the European financial jurisdiction. This way there is no risk of losing your money without receiving your purchase.

THOC delivers high quality services to both buyers and sellers. All of this is totally free!

To our buyers we offer the below mentioned services:

  • Screening of offered items and sellers: THOC strives to offer various and attractive auctions to our buyers. We screen every lot so you can be sure to always receive new and interesting items in auction. Furthermore we screen our sellers. If sellers seem not to be trustworthy they will be prohibited to sell at THOC. This way we ensure high customer satisfaction.
  • Escrow money: THOC has partnered with a reliable financial partner. All your payments will be held on third party bank accounts until you received your purchase. If all is well we will pay out your money to the seller. If a problem occurs we will keep your money in escrow until the problem is resolved.
  • Mediation between buyer and seller: In the unfortunate case a dispute is opened between a buyer and a seller thoc will mediate between the parties to enhance the best possible outcome for both parties.
  • Customer support: Our outstanding customer support will be more than happy to assist you with any problems or questions that may arrive during your purchase process.

We offer the following services to all of our sellers:

  • Screening and valuation of offered items: If you are not sure about the value of an item our experienced team will review and value your item for free!
  • Promotion and marketing of your items: THOC will promote and market their auctions on a lot of different platforms. By offering up your items for auction your business will grow significantly by the free publicity you will receive from THOC.
  • Collection of payments: THOC will follow up on the payment of your sold items. In case your buyer will not pay in time THOC and/or our partnered collection agency will ensure you will receive your payment.

At The House of Curiosities we strive to offer a diverse range of oddities and collectables. That is why, from time to time, we launch themed auction. Our themed auctions evolve with the seasons.

Yes! All bids placed by you are binding. If you have won an item by placing the highest bid you are expected to pay the item within 3 days. If an item remains unpaid after 3 days the payment reminder procedure will be started. When a purchase remains unpaid for more than 12 days after the auction ended the case will be transferred to a collection agency which will proceed to collect the payment. Also your user account will be blocked and you will be unable to place any more bids.

If you accidently made a wrong bid, contact our customer support immediately! Customer support will evaluate the bid and can remove it if the following conditions are met:

  • The bidder has contacted customer support within 2 hours after placing an accidental bid.
  • The bid that was placed is significantly higher than the highest bid at that moment and is not in line with the item offered.

Note that our customer support will not just remove bids. A procedure is in place and if customer support decides that your bid cannot be removed your bid will still be taken into account in the bidding process.

To avoid accidental bids a confirmation procedure is in place. You will always be asked to confirm your bid. Always check before confirming!

Account and signup at THOC
It's easy to buy at THOC. You can win an item in 3 simple steps.
Click Signup in the right corner of your screen and fill in your details. We will send you an activation email and you are ready to enter the bidding. If you win your favorite item the payment needs to be fulfilled within 3 working days. After the payment is done the seller is obliged to ship the item.
Of Course it's safe to buy at THOC. THOC will facilitate the transaction between seller and buyer. We will manage the payment until we are certain the goods are delivered well. We pay out our buyers 14 days after the shipment is done. If the buyer opens a complaint the payment is blocked until a solution was found. Sellers are obliged to ship the object within 3 working days after the payment is done.
Of course it's possible to sell at THOC! We don't like to complicate things so follow these 4 steps:
It's necessary to create an account at THOC. We like to get to know our sellers al little bit better so we ask some additional information. Follow the easy guidelines to offer up an item. Your item will be reviewed by our professionals and placed in the most compelling auction. After the auction is done and we received the highest bid you are obliged to ship your item. THOC pays out its sellers 14 days after an item gets shipped.
It's safe to sell at THOC. THOC will facilitate the transaction between seller and buyer. We ask our buyers to pay 3 working days after the auction ended. After the payment is done we will inform our seller that the item can be shipped. This also needs to be done within 3 working days. When a purchase remains unpaid for more than 12 days after the auction ended the case will be transferred to a collection agency which will proceed to collect the payment. Also the buyer's account will be blocked and it will be impossible for him to place any more bids.
Your personal information like your address and your telephone number must be correct at all times. Once you won an item the seller will receive your address so he can ship the item to you as soon as possible. It is therefore very important that you enter your correct personal details and it your own sole responsibility that they are correct and up to date.
Your personal information is not made public on the website of THOC. Sellers will only receive your personal information like your address and telephone number when you successfully purchased an item from them in one of our auctions. Other users won't be able to see your personal details other than your username.
To change your information go to your account page. This is possible after clicking in the right top corner of the page. To delete your contact our customer support team. This can be easily done via the contact page.
You can request a new password easily by using the 'forgotten your password' link on the sign in page. You'll be sent an email with a link to the password creation page.
Please contact our customer support team. They can review and activate your account manually.
Buyer at THOC
You can place your bid by clicking on an item. In the product view page you can then fill in your bid in the foreseen box. Your bid is accepted if it meets following conditions:
  • - The bid is higher than the previous one
  • - The bid is placed before the auction ended
  • - No unaccepted characters were filled in (question marks, underscore..)

No! It is not possible to lower your bid. Lowering a bid would lead to irregularities in the auction process. All bids will be binding until a higher bid was done.
If you fill in a proxy bit, an automatic bid will take place to guarantee that you are the highest bidder. The system will place bids regarding the minimal bidding amount and your maximal proxy bit amount. This means that the automatic bidding will stop once the highest bid passes your maximal proxy bid amount.
A reserve price is a minimum price that a seller wants to receive for its object. If the highest bid is lower than the reserve price the item will not be sold. All reserve prices are reviewed by our professionals. This is to overcome irregularities and to ensure that installed reserve prices will never be higher than our auctioneers' estimated value.
When a proxy bid is higher than the reserve price installed: the amount of the reserve price will be the first bid displayed and the automatic bid will remain active until it is outbid. When the proxy bid equals the reserve price installed: the amount of the reserve price will be the first bid displayed - therefore the proxy bid will have reached its maximum and will no longer be active. When the proxy bid falls below the reserve price: the maximum amount of the proxy bid will be placed as the only bid - therefore the proxy bid will have reached its maximum and will no longer be active.

In order to ensure meaningful bidding and healthy competition between buyers THOC uses the following bid increments. However, higher increments than those suggested are allowed.

During registration you get to choose your bidding currency. The bidding currency will be the same as your invoice currency. After registration it is not possible to change your currency anymore.
This can happen because users have the option to place bids in a currency of their choice (GBP, USD, EUR). All bids and next minimum bid steps in other currencies are automatically converted using the applicable exchange rates at the start of the auction. This may cause the bid to look like it does not follow the next minimum bid step. However it is a valid bid.
If you are the highest bidder at the moment the auction has closed the item will be automatically allocated to your user account. When you open your buyer dashboard you will always find your won items in the second section of your user dashboard titled 'Items won'.
After the auction ended you will have 3 days to pay your won items. You just have to follow the instructions in the buyer dashboard by clicking on the pay now button.
If you do not pay in time our payment reminder procedure will start to work. If our internal payment reminder procedure does not have any effect we will contact our partnered collection agency who will start collecting the arrears. Once you paid your item an order number will be created and communicated to the seller of your won item. This way the seller can start taking action in sending the item to your registered home address. You can easily follow up on the progress of your order in your buyer dashboard. You will find all information in the 'my orders' section.
Some items will not be shipped by the seller but need to be picked up at the seller's location. You can check whether an item needs to be picked up or if it will be shipped in the shipping information of an item.
According to THOC policy the seller has 3 days to prepare and ship his item. If he has not shipped the item within 3 days we will send him an official warning. Depending on the outcome we will refund your full purchase amount and charge the seller with the commission fees.
According to THOC policy it is your responsibility to report any damage within 4 days of receiving the item. If you fail to report any damage within that period your seller can not be held responsible for the damage. You can report the damage by sending a mail to the seller trough your buyer dashboard or by filing a dispute for the respective order in your buyer dashboard.
If you reported the damage on time there should be no problem in receiving a replacement item or a full refund. The first option will always be to send a replacement if the seller can provide one. If that is not the case a refund will be made.
Once your order status was changed to shipped you can follow up on your shipment by clicking on the tracking link provided by your seller. Should you still have doubts about receiving the item you should file a dispute in your buyer dashboard. This way our support team can follow up on the situation and hold the money. Please be aware that you only have 14 days to open a dispute after the order status was changed to shipped. If you fail to open a dispute within 14 days we cannot resolve the dispute with a refund on our behalf because we have already paid out the amount to our seller. We can still negotiate between you and the seller but it is then up to the seller to come up with a solution.
If needed you can easily communicate with the seller by clicking on the username of the seller when in the my order section of your buyer dashboard. Once you sent him a message throughout your buyer dashboard you can keep communicating with him trough your mailbox that you can find under 'my account'.
Different suspension levels can be applied to our user's accounts. The most common reason an account is blocked or suspended is that payments are overdue. If your account is suspended or you cannot place bids anymore please check your outstanding payments in your buyer dashboard.
You have the right to withdraw from a purchase agreement within 14 days after receiving the item, without stating a reason. This right is only applicable if you reside in a country within the European Economic Area and if the seller is a professional retailer. (as indicated by the 'Professional seller' icon in the seller information area).
You can use this right by clearly stating your wish to withdraw by explicitly notifying THOC customer support by opening a dispute through your buyer dashboard in case you haven't paid your purchase yet. Should you already have paid your purchase to THOC and you wish to cancel your purchase you should contact the seller that you wish to withdraw your purchase. You can contact him by selling him a message throughout your buyer dashboard. Go to 'my orders' click on the seller's username of the order you with to cancel and send him a message. Further communication with the seller will be enabled in your inbox.
Once your order status was changed to shipped you can follow up on your shipment by clicking on the tracking link provided by your seller. Should you still have doubts about receiving the item you should file a dispute in your buyer dashboard. This way our support team can follow up on the situation and hold the money. Please be aware that you only have 14 days to open a dispute after the order status was changed to shipped. Your accounted will be automatic blocked if a payment is due longer than 12 days. We will unblock the account if the payment is fulfilled. Depending on the payment option it can take up to 3 working days until your account is unblocked.

Because we like things simple and uniform we ask our sellers to fill in a complete and attracting description. Furthermore ask some necessary information concerning the items dimension, age and characteristics. All offered items will be reviewed by our professionals.
The best way to promote your item is to fill in a clear description. Furthermore a good picture says more than a thousand words. We advise our sellers to upload a picture of every angle. In that way it's clear for buyers in what condition the item is.
After all steps were followed correctly our professionals will review your item. The item will be approved or rejected and will be placed in the most compelling auction. If an item is offered up to an auction it's not possible to delete it. The seller is responsible to deliver the good after the auction is closed. If for some reason an item needs to be deleted. We advise you to contact customer support as fast as possible.

It's not necessary to be a professional to sell at THOC! Every private and public person can offer up at the House of Curiosities. We ask additional information to screen all sellers and to protect our buyers.
Yes. As soon as your lot is sold and has been paid for you are obliged to deliver the lot. We urge our sellers to take action within three days of receiving the payment.
If needed you can easily communicate with the buyer of your product by clicking on the username of the buyer when in the my order section of your seller dashboard. Once you sent him a message throughout your seller dashboard you can keep communicating with him trough your mailbox that you can find under 'my account'.
Your accounted could be automatic blocked if a payment is due longer than 12 days. We will unblock the account if the payment is fulfilled. Depending on the payment option it can take up to 3 working days until your account is unblocked.
Furthermore if we notice irregularities or due to customer complaints it can be possible that your account is blocked. A complaint can be made to customer support in that case. Every case will be handled regarding our terms and conditions.
Commission invoices are available in your seller dashboard. They can easily be downloaded to be included in your accounting.
Professional sellers in the EU will not be charged with VAT if they comply with all the needed seller information.
Because PayPal is one of our major partners every seller needs to enter a valid PayPal account when registering his seller account. If you do not have a PayPal account yet, you can easily create oneat www.paypal.com.
Our professional sellers can apply for the partner program. This is free of charge and has the following benefits: - Receive your revenue instantly. You receive your funds when the buyer pays his invoice. - You can add multiple payment methods and you can increase your sales due to a higher visibility in our auctions.
It is not difficult to become a partnered seller on THOC. There are three major steps to complete before you can accepting multiple payment methods on THOC. 1. Register an account at Mollie Payment Gateway. 2. Create the THOC website profile 3. Connect your Mollie account with the THOC interface. When you are logged into your account (as a professional seller) you can download the instructions on the partnered sellers page.
Payments
We cooperate with experienced partners to facilitate our payments. It's possible to pay by VISA, Mastercard and Paypall.
No, it's not possible to make cash payments. You need to pay your item to THOC. In this way it's safe to buy at THOC. After your payment is done we will inform the seller that the item can be shipped or picked up. Each buyer will receive seller's information after the auction is closed. 
It's obliged to pay within 3 working days after the auction ended. If a purchase remains unpaid for more than 12 days (after the auction ended) the case will be transferred to a collection agency which will proceed to collect the payment. Also the buyer's user account will be blocked and it will be impossible for him to place any more bids.
After you shipped the Item the buyer is protected for a period of 14 days. If we don't receive any complaints the money will be transferred to the seller after 14 days of shipping the item to the buyer.
If you are a partnered seller you will receive your money instantly after the buyer has paid.
No! As stated the highest bid is VAT included but commission (and VAT on commission) excluded. THOC will make a commission invoice to buyer and seller. Furthermore THOC will make an invoice on behalf of the seller. If the item is new the invoice will be made VAT included.
It's possible that a transaction didn't go through. The seller received his item back and the buyer his money. THOC however is also damaged in this transaction. If one of both parties harmed the transaction THOC is in the possibility to invoice the damage to this party.
Your money will be blocker after a dispute was made. THOC will block the money to sort out a suitable solution. If buyer and seller can't sort out a solution, THOC will decide the dispute based on the global terms and conditions. If according to THOC seller or buyer is involved in fraud it is possible that THOC will block all payments to or from this seller/ buyer.
